Baking Up Purpose
I am Marianna P. Judy, Baker and Founder of Tag Team Kitchen. I work along side my son, a young man with autism, baking handmade pizza crusts. Ben has a passion for cooking and we both have a love of home made pizza. It’s close to impossible to find work when you have a communication disability. So, I developed a business to provide an opportunity for Ben and other people with disabilities, who have a true passion for food and kitchen work. We share a commercial kitchen at 8814 Brookville Road in Silver Spring, Maryland.
I adapt and modify baking techniques and recipes to suit Ben’s strengths. Then he can work independently to prepare dough and assist in baking. The newest addition to the Team, Sean, helps to prepare and package our pizza sauce and shredded cheese blend. With support and proven practices in place, Ben and Sean are able to provide a delicious and wholesome product for our customers to create their own pizzas at home, using the bounty of fresh ingredients they can find at the farmers market.
Being a part of the community through farmers markets is an important element of our work. As we share our food and build relationships with our customers, the community can see how all kinds of people can make a positive impact in society.
Working gives us purpose, and everyone who wants to work deserves a chance! That’s the idea behind Tag Team Kitchen.
